The Cottage Scene by Goldendawn69 The Cottage Scene by Goldendawn69
Just wanted to show that I am still alive.

Been working on a piece of work that I am doing with someone - it is one of the ones I want to get out of the way before I commit fully to my outstanding projects.

However, while doing it I was massively struggling with lighting and how to get fix lighting (like for example Sun) to work in a comic style when each time I went to do different work I got different and hard to light shots.

So I worked a number of weeks on this, using this as a learning piece to get better lighting control, and also work on some blur, and also scene placement.

Anyway thought I would share :)

This will be the scene of a new comic coming as soon as I can finish it :)

Very nice!  Except the pig doesn't look real.  I never worried too much about sunlight direction, but you can create a sun node using a distant light  and move it about the scene.

Funny that is what my Wife said :) Everything was good but the pig :)

But it is a house pig - you know - cute, clean, friendly, can talk and has a spider friend :)

Yeah tried that - however I used the Sun-Sky mode in Render Settings for this, and only Emission Objects. If I use HDRs the scene takes 59 minutes to render, and I really didn't like the look at the end. With Sun-Sky and Emission Objects took 34 minutes and that a new version with genesis 2 model.... and the pig still there but it now has some dirt on it :)

Charlotte's web.  Pretty cool.

I never render sun/sky.  I go with dome/scene, or just scene.  You can go with dome/scene, with infinite dome.  Then set the distant light to a really high number (or try with an emisive big cube or a spot way up there).  As you move the cube or spot, the shadows change.  Turning down the environment intensity increases the effect of the cube/spot, which acts as your sun.  Seems like a long rendering time.

I might look at your idea see if it helps at all - I am getting good rendering time with this scene with Sun/Sky - however - right now the render takes 22gig of memory! No word of lie!

22 gig?!  Christ!  My cards have much less capacity, so my scenes are typically around 4 gig.

That isn't in my card - for some reason that is system memory - even though the whole thing is being rendered by the GPUs - so not sure why the hell it is using so much memory.

Are you sure it's going through the card?

Oh my. Fancy cottage, that is :3

Sometimes, you have to experiment, to get better results. Try, and try, until you get the right look. And this looks good! Mighty good!

Heehee. Looking forward to the comic. ^^ I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

Guess what story it is for :P

I am having to start again because of the lighting issues I was talking about - and also Genesis 3 is one of the problems I am having so I am going back to Genesis 2 until I can figure out why G3 is causing massive slow down of my RIG (I think it is genX when used against that model).

I know that story :3 Oh yessss. I was looking for the fruit of our labor. X3 I wasn't quite sure if this was the same house, it seemed slightly different with the material, thanks to the shading, but I recognized the table that was set. :3

So glad to see it being worked on again. I get the problems that can come with some programs, so you do what you need ;3

Bouncing around, looking forward to it!

A lot has changed on the scene because of issues around the shading and lighting - also the model I used before seemed to have some issues with caused rendering to be around 2 hours long for a house!!! So I totally revamped the house - and the Genesis 3 clothing that the woman will wear.

Going to put this in my Wandering Tavern Inn universe if you are okay - this way I can get it published on TGComics if you like :)

Dawn, that is an amazing piece of work! The Light settings is perfect and the picture looks like this: "Ahhh at home....where is my wife and the kids? No matter....a cold beer, a chair....perfect!" Home sweet home!

Thanks :) When I do the comic I am going to have to reduce some of the noise (animals around). But now I have this part done I am going to test the locations in the scene the action happens, and check to make sure lighting is really going to work as I hope :)
