Well my Xmas present to myself was some shaders and stuff to help me make Anime/Manga type pictures, since I have an interest in working on more Manga style pictures for certain stories.

So this is my first attempt at really trying to make a "comic" looking Manga type render.

Yep :)

Using Anime Head, Iray Anime Textures (40 dollars poorer with the Anime Stuff I bought), and Photoshop Plugin for helping to make it more drawn :)

Iray render: 4 minutes :)

Of course It was two lights, and open scene, so nothing really for it to do.

Can't find it. Is that the name?

Heh.  Speed isn't an issue for me anymore.  Upgraded my system.  GTX 980 Ti x2, GTX 780 Ti + around 8512 Cuda cores.  I did the Sickleyield bench mark in 1:15!

Um I should try on my new one :)

You have three cards?

I just forked out money for a Asus GTX 1080 8Gig card

Using that with my Asus GTX 980 Ti 6 gig card - so if I keep the scene to less than 6 gig I get both cards pumping out the rendering, if I go over I still have something with higher specs and processing power working on the scene.

So with that test in mind
Both Cards: 1 minutes 23.9 seconds
1080 Itself: 2 minutes 44.67 seconds
980 Ti itself:2 minutes 38.49 seconds

So the cards are pretty damn close - the issue was however my scenes I was doing were hitting over 4 gig (usually about 5.8gig) so my secondary card was dropping out of the race before I even started. Then I had scenes were were hitting 6.8gig, and then I was falling totally to CPU which was really bad.

The problem wasn't outside scenes - which we pretty good - or scenes with just dome, but anything that had realistic lighting.

I have a few more tests to look into but I think things that were taking me a couple of hours to render might take a lot less time (here is hoping).

the Head is @ hivewire3d.com/universal-anime…
I just bought this - it isn't a morph - it is a head piece that you composet onto the figure you want. There is a few areas around the neck you have to be careful of, and then of course there is texture matching - however - with manga stuff you should only be using more basic texture/colours anyway.

Yeah, I was able to squeeze in a third card.  I have a big case, a Coolermaster Haf X.  When I was running a 970/780 ti combo, I was limited to 3 gig for both cards.  6 gig I've found is plenty for what I do.  Initially, I was going to get a Titan X Maxwell for the 12 gig size, but there was an issue with the sale.  Guy basically took my $800 and sent me nothing.  Paypal says I'll get my money back in 10 days.  We'll see.  So when I thought about it, 2 980 Ti's should be faster for me than the Titan and 780 combo for scenes up to 6 gig.  So I found a matched pair for 800 on Ebay, the EVGA Classified versions that have backplates.  Ran the 2 cards for a bit and was very happy, then I thought I might as well try to get the 780 into the last slot.  A 780 Ti is a great card cuda wise, it just has a smaller capacity.  The surprising thing I found was with that in the third slot, it wasn't cutting out on bigger scenes.  It's supposed to, but it doesn't.  Works on scenes well into the 4 gig range.  The 3 together are ridiculously fast.  I did my first Iray animation, 300 images, with my 970/780 Ti.  Took 2 days.  I think my next one with my new set up will finish in under 1 day for 150 images.

Back to the anime textures, I still don't understand how you did that.  The product you showed is just a head.  What about the rest of the scene?

The body was Genesis 2 using Aiko 6 body. For the skin I used Visual Style Shader and then converting to IRAY. This generates the "basic" look, and of course the more basic flatter texturing.

However, the outline happens with my postwork, I use Photoshop and then a plugin called AKVIS Sketch which does sketches - I have created custom parameters on that to help create the look I am after, however, depending on the lighting, and the distance position of the focus character they need to be changed to make sure you can still see certain detail.

Hey Areg, sorry need to confirm something - I identified that Visual Style Shader doesn't work with IRAY and I stated what was the texture I used at the beginning but in my last reply I mixed up with the other one I used while playing with the rendering methods.

The one I used in the picture was "Iray Anime Textures" however I am about to post one (which isn't IRAY) using Visual Style Shader which I like a lot more because the outside lines are automatically done as a part of the render. I am thinking I need very little post work.

The Iray Anime Textures are pretty damn nice also - the issue there is how to make everything else around and with the character look drawn also :)

I have bought a lot of plugins and I have custom settings I use on them depending on the texture and the lighting of the scene. Not really automatic (like I wish) but it allows me to do make some of it look more drawn. I like the style.
